5 Easy Fat Burning Foods

Eat your way to a slimmer you with fat burning foods

So you’re on a fitness mission to shed a few extra pounds, you simply want to eat healthy or you may want to shred up for a competition. Hopefully you’ve been good and have been enjoying a healthy, balanced diet and even looked at a calorie calculator to ensure you are consuming the correct amount. There are super, fat burning foods, most of which you probably eat on a regular basis anyway, that can actually help lose those irritating extra pounds. Here are our top 5 to help you on your way!

A Cup of Tea

Let’s start with an easy way to incorporate a fat burning “food” into tour diet. We fellow Brits love a good cuppa, so you should be pretty ecstatic to know that by drinking a cup of tea you are arming yourself with a powerful weight loss tool.  Tea contains powerful antioxidants that help eliminate disease and other health benefits. Tea also causes your metabolic rate to rise higher than normal over a long period of time.  Green tea has been shown to aid fat burning due to its mild caffeine levels. Try to have it as it comes – without adding any extras because extras mean calories.

Glorious Grapefruit

Most of us know that this super citrus fruit is packed with Vitamin C, but this isn’t its only benefit. Grapefruit can in fact lower the insulin levels in the body and this can in turn aid in preventing the storage of sugar as fat. Lower insulin levels can also put a cork on a raging appetite too. Being high in fibre, it takes more calories to digest grapefruit that it actually contains as a food, so it can help move your system along and it’s a ‘negative calorie’ food.

The Apple of Your Eye

Apples are one of the most popular fruits and they come in a huge variety of shapes and colours to entice you to take a juicy bite from their succulent core. Apples are sweet, crunchy and tasty and they contain a substance called pectin, which can actually limit how much fat your own cells can absorb making apples a super fat burning food! Don’t forget though: never go totally crazy with fruits as they do contain natural sugars.

Favour Some Fresh Fish

Leptin is a hormone which can directly influence one’s metabolism by determining whether or not your body stores calories or burns them for fuel. The best way to lower leptin levels in the body is by having a good balance of fresh fish in your diet – not forgetting it’s a super protein source of course!  You may be picky when it comes to fish, and you may not even like it, but take the time to sample different kinds. There is such an abundance of fish breeds out there with different tastes and textures.

Wholesome Wholegrains

You may often see TV adverts preaching the health benefits of vitamins contained within wholegrains, but the reason they are in our top 5 is because your body uses twice as many calories to break down wholegrain foods than processed foods. Great wholegrain examples are oatmeal and brown rice as they are also slow release carbohydrates that will keep you fuller for longer.

Always remember to maintain a healthy balanced diet. Less is more and too much of a good thing could potentially be inhibiting. Moderation is the key to successful weight loss. If you need help with your diet, please get in touch. In the meantime, why not try out these free recipes?
